OverviewThis study distinguishes between the core of the Qur'anic message directed to all peoples for all times and places and the discourse generated in relation to the peoples addressed at that time in that particular area namely the Near East especially the Arabian Peninsula at large. The study stresses two aspects of the Qur'anic discourse. The first is the methodology used by Muhammad pursuing his mission where we see it is dynamic and not rigid varying according to circumstances. The methodology used is best described by accommodation, where old practices are directed towards the new direction of the mission. This was applied to the Meccans, Jews and Christians and others. Thus it is appropriate the study starts by looking briefly at the theological views prevalent at that time especialy the Hebrew Bible and the Gospels. When humans beings arrive at new ideas concerning subjects of interest they always start with some aspects of the older existing ideas. The new builds upon the old adding something extra, which may produce a new direction.
