Overview

"The ""bad habits"" of hugely effective people embody many of the fundamental principles of human effectiveness. These habits are basic and primary. They represent the internalization of correct principles that build lasting happiness and success.but before we can really understand them, we have to understand our own paradigms and knowing how to make a paradigm shift. We all have many maps in our heads, which can be classified into two main categories: maps of how things are, or realities, and maps of how things should be, or values. With these mental maps we interpret everything we experience. We rarely question its accuracy; we are usually not even aware that they exist. We simply take it for granted that the way we see things corresponds to what they really are or should be. Before we can completely change the direction of our life, taking it into the circle of influence, we have to consider two things in our circle of concern that deserve deeper consideration: the consequences and the mistakes.while we are free to choose our actions, we are not free to choose the consequences of those actions. Consequences are governed by natural laws. They are outside the circle of influence, in the circle of concern. We can choose to stand in the middle of the tracks when a train comes towards us, but we cannot decide what will happen when the train hits us."
