OverviewAdynton's Child is the pen name of Dr. Patricia C. Edwards. She is the second child of Adelaide E. Bignall and Malton L. Edwards, both of whom were from the parish of Portland, Jamaica. However, Adynton's Child was born in Duckenfield in the parish of St. Thomas, Jamaica. Her pen name is derived from an amalgamation of segments of her parents' names, and represents a literary coming out into the public media space. She attended Duckenfield Primary School, Happy Grove High School in Hectors River, Portland, and later matriculated at the Mico Teachers' College in Kingston, Jamaica. After graduating from teachers' college, she taught at St. Hugh's High School in Kingston, Jamaica. From there she migrated to Canada and later to the United States of America. She holds a Ph.D. and a Master of Philosophy in Education with a specialization in Assessment, Evaluation, and Accountability. In addition, she holds a MA in History, and an Honors BA in Geography and History. She is currently a Professor of Social Sciences at Monroe University, Bronx, New York. As a proponent for the improvement of rural education, she is the Founder and Director of the Eastern St. Thomas A.E. Bignall Academic Competitions. As well, she is one of the founding members of the St. Thomas Renaissance Foundation. Both organizations seek to uplift the parish of St. Thomas. In 2021, Dr. Edwards was one of the recipients of The Mico University College 185th Anniversary Award for her contribution to education, community involvement, leadership and philanthropy. She has now extended her community involvement to the African continent - West Africa, to be specific. Here she plans to ""vocationalize history"" by synthesizing it with African fictional genres, African textiles, clothing, and fashion, with its accompanying technology. This pursuit will fulfill the implication section of her doctoral research by providing jobs for students who are interested in the combined areas of study.
