OverviewPalestinian terrorists launched hundreds of rockets into Israeli airspace on Friday 5 August 2022 evening in reaction to Israeli bombings earlier in the day, heightening the risk of a more prolonged confrontation even as United Nations officials secretly worked to mediate a ceasefire. Israeli television showed the rockets traveling over Israeli land before being destroyed by missiles from an Israeli air defense system known as Iron Dome. Interceptions were recorded in the sky over Yavne, a city in central Israel approximately 30 miles north of Gaza, while air raid sirens were sounded further to the south. Islamic Jihad, a terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip targeted before by Israel, claimed responsibility for the missile launch. There were no early reports of damage or injuries. Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip have caused massive damage to structures and civil infrastructure, including the collapse of multiple apartments and office towers, the leveling of government buildings, as well as residences, security compounds, including several police stations, and service facilities like banks and schools. As of May 13, Israel had undertaken hundreds of air and artillery attacks on Hamas, who has launched more than 2,000 rockets and mortars against it (many of which misfired, but the bulk of which Israel intercepted with its Iron Dome air defense system) (many of which misfired, but the majority of which Israel intercepted with its Iron Dome air defense system). The damage of this episode is more equivalent to the four previous Gaza conflicts - in 2006, 2008-2009, 2012, and 2014 - than any of the flare-ups in between because of Hamas's potency, both in terms of the number of rockets and their reach, greatly surpasses prior escalations, and Israeli retribution has been rapid and severe. More than a record of battle and destruction, The War is an urgent warning that the legacy of the fight has made another military attack on Gaza nearly probable. And although the people of Gaza will once again exhibit their tenacity, the world can no longer simply stand back and watch. Click the button above and grab your book now and give one to a loved one.
