Professor of violin at the Conservatoire National de Musique in Paris for forty-seven years, he toured widely in Europe and Russia; he was a member of Napoleon's chamber orchestra, first violinist in Louis XVIII's string quartet, and solo violinist of the orchestra of the Paris Opera. LOUISE GOLDBERG is Head of Rare Books and Special Collections at the Sibley Music Library of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester.
