OverviewThe memories you least like to think about have more of a hold on you than you realize... and EMDR has the power to change that.Trauma affects us all... It shapes our behaviors, our perceptions, and our interactions. Addressing it, we make the world a kinder and more connected place. Whether you're a therapist or someone searching for new inroads to emotional healing, your goal is to process trauma. In fact, to be most effective, you need to engage the creative brain. That's where Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) comes in. EMDR can ease the distress you associate with your worst memories and experiences, combining your imagination with bilateral stimulation-often in the form of guided eye movements. The result? The way you perceive events changes, giving you a more balanced understanding of both yourself and the world around you. Written by a licensed psychologist and EMDR therapist, this guide is not designed to replace therapy, but to give you relief and a pathway back to your true self. Inside, you'll discover: How EMDR works Practical exercises to help you identify your trauma (you might be surprised where you find it!) Clear guidance for finding the memories that are affecting you the most deeply...even if you don't realize it Step-by-step guidance for processing a trauma memory through EMDR How art can be combined with EMDR-and why this is so effective (with practical steps for applying your creative self) And much more. EMDR can help you process painful memories and lead you back to your true self. Table of ContentsReviews5.0 out of 5 stars Making peace with TraumaReviewed in the United States on March 21, 2025 When I first heard of EMDR, it just sounded weird, but then people I know started telling me their positive experiences. So when a therapist suggested it when I was dealing with a trauma that brought up so many past emotions, I agreed to try it. It was amazing how quickly I felt back in control. I was excited to see this book on how to do it for myself. This book is very well written, breaking the process down and giving resources for every step. Everything is explained well, but not dumbed down. The author gives brief vignettes of client experiences that ties it all together. I feel confident I can do the process if I need to. This is an excellent resource, with references to other materials on the subject. I can't recommend this enough, you have to experience it. 5.0 out of 5 stars Super information presented in an easy to understand mannerReviewed in Australia on March 14, 2025 I use this book a lot - it is so informative and you can't just read it in one go and forget about it - there is so much helpful information in it that I come back to it over and over again - I already had the audio book - and I feel it helps to listen and read later to really get it! Highly recommended! 5.0 out of 5 stars The missing puzzle pieceReviewed in Canada on December 8, 2024 I seldom write a review however, I would do a disservice to potential readers if I don't. This book felt like the missing puzzle piece in my comprehension of EMDR as a whole. The author uses language that readers can clearly understand while they back it up with resources and short patient experiences. This book can change your quality of life, if you let it. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, practical guide to self-healing traumaReviewed in the United States on March 27, 2025 I love this book! It is a practical, detailed, step-by-step description of several techniques for discharging somatically held trauma, which I have found very powerful and transformative in my life . . . Highly recommended for anyone who wants to discharge old trauma/wounds. Author InformationDeborah L.
