The Art of Proclamation: The Sermons of Rev. Dr. Donald E. Williams

Overview

This limited collection of sermons is intentionally simplistic in language, free of confusing theological terms and erudite vocabulary. The sermons are crafted to be understood by eighth graders up to individuals in the winter of their years, while being rich in theological depth and meaning. Preaching must be understood by the hearer to be effective, otherwise it is like a seed that is sown on a path, seeds that are snatched away by the evil one (Matt 13:18-19). May these sermons inspire readers in their spiritual growth and maturity in Christ. May they take root in the soul and bear fruit, thirty-, seventy-, to a hundredfold.

Reviews

""Preaching is a craft. How does one learn a craft? By looking over the shoulders of a skilled craftsman. There's no better way to learn to practice or to appreciate the craft of Christian preaching than to look over the shoulders of Donald E. Williams. Here is a fascinating collection of biblical sermons that demonstrate the art of proclamation, the inspired craft of bringing the truth of Jesus Christ to speech. What an artist of the word is Donald Williams and what a gift is this book."" --Will Willimon, Professor of the Practice of Christian Ministry, Duke Divinity School ""Dr. Williams brings together theological depth and remarkable clarity, offering sermons that make the gospel both accessible and transformative. His preaching invites us to encounter Christ, examine our lives, and let go of what hinders genuine spiritual growth. The Art of Proclamation models preaching that is biblically grounded, pastorally wise, and alive with the Spirit. These sermons will inspire preachers and nourish all who seek a deeper, more faithful walk with God."" --Lal Rodawla, Associate Pastor, Providence Presbyterian Church, Charlotte, North Carolina
