He founded and developed the largest independent pediatric neurosurgical service at the Charité, University of Berlin in 2005, followed by a division at the University of Ulm in 2015 and finally a division at the University of Bonn in 2016, where he was called on the first German Chair for Pediatric Neurosurgery. In 2018 he was decorated with the order of the Estonian Red Cross for 20 years of support of pediatric neurosurgery in Estonia. His surgical fields include microscopic reconstructive cranial surgery, microneurosurgery and endoscopic surgery. He has lectured at the Universities of Berlin, Ulm, Tartu and Bonn. He served as member of the Faculty of the European Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery (ESPN) and host of the ESPN’s annual course in Berlin. He is member of the advisory board of the ISPN library of the International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery. Professor Haberl holds the patent for a surgical instrument and has published many articles in peer- reviewed journals, book chapters, and several popular science articles in well-known German newspapers. Dedicated to education, Prof. Haberl currently trains young neruosurgeons at the Rothschild Foundation in Paris, at the University Hospital of Nice and at the Schön-Klinik Vogtareuth (Bavaria).
