OverviewThe Art of Being a Kid is a book inspired by the news that the author, David Gildersleeve, and his wife, Samantha, were going to have a son. The illustrations in this book were created to give their son a perspective on how to be a kid. These are based on David's experiences using a simple style that his young son could follow. It turns out that more people than just his son enjoyed these single-page vignettes on growing up. Samantha, seeing how people responded to David's illustrations, made prints of these recollections from his youth to sell in galleries displaying his art. They became immediate best-sellers! Now here they are - a collection of 80 vignettes that follow our hero through a year of being a kid - all the adventures and funny moments that prove we are all connected through the magic of being children. So get ready to be enchanted with this look into the life of a kid. It'll bring back memories from your youth. It's a great book for anyone with kids - or for anyone who enjoyed being a kid themselves... A walk down memory lane! David Gildersleeve began his long and illustrious art career while growing up in the great state of Texas. Comic books sparked his interest in art, and were his earliest teachers. His work writing and drawing comic books was also the beginning of his career as a professional artist. Besides working in comics, David has accepted many illustration jobs on commission, working for companies as diverse as Microsoft and The American Diabetes Association. David has also recently started writing and illustrating children's books, while still remaining a prominent artist on his parent's refrigerator. Although David is committed to the world of comics and illustration, he also enjoys painting. He paints subjects that invade his subconscious, using a wonky style to help bring these images to life. Using textures and a selective palette, David creates an unmistakable style in his work that most people refer to as whimsical. His paintings can be found in several galleries across the United States and he has won several prestigious awards for his artwork. Besides being a busy artist, David has found time to teach at The Corcoran School of Art and The Savannah College of Art and Design. He developed many of their sequential art courses and helped many very talented students hone their skills during his years at both institutions. In addition to his many successful and creative projects, Dave enjoys working with his talented and beautiful wife Samantha, enjoying his ever on-the-move sons J.D. and Steven, restoring classic muscle cars from the 60's and 70's ... as well as writing very humble autobiographies in the third person.
