Overview

Now in paperback, a groundbreaking, multi-award-winning modern classic from one of the world's most acclaimed artists. ""Tan's lovingly laid out and masterfully rendered tale about the immigrant experience is a documentary magically told."" -- Art Spiegelman, author of Maus A man leaves his wife and child in an impoverished town, seeking better prospects in an unknown country on the other side of a vast ocean. He finds himself in a bewildering city of unfamiliar customs, peculiar animals, curious floating objects, and indecipherable languages. He is helped along the way by sympathetic strangers, each carrying their own unspoken history: stories of struggle and survival in a world of incomprehensible violence, upheaval, and hope. Told as a series of extraordinary wordless images, The Arrival is a modern classic sure to resonate with readers of all ages.
