Overview

It is the eighteenth year of the reign of the judges, and the cry of war is heard throughout the land. Cunephi has volunteered to join a party of warriors from his village as they defend their lands and people, but in so doing must leave his mother to be cared for by the elders. He struggles to prepare himself for the sacrifices and violence of war, as the army to whom he has sworn allegiance marches swiftly toward an innumerable host. In the course of his journey he confronts his relationship with God, facing the truth about the death of his father at the hands of the Lamanites.

Timothy Von Hoyt was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army in 2007, and is a recipient of the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan. As a behavioral science officer and psychologist, he has authored numerous publications on combat-related stress and posttraumatic stress disorder. His research emphasizes the therapeutic benefits in the social sharing of combat events. He currently lives with his family near Joint Base Lewis-McChord in the state of Washington.
