After graduating from the Rudolph Steiner school Bochum, Friedewald studied art history, theatre studies and education . After graduating with an MA Friedewald freelanced as a dramaturge for Achim Freyer among others, and founded the Freyer Ensemble. He worked temporarily as a teacher of art and theatre history in Berlin. Friedewald has published art history works on the Bauhaus and photography, and has produced several artist biographies.
