She specialises in South and Southern African politics. She is the author of The African National Congress and the regeneration of political power (Johannesburg, Witwatersrand University Press, 2011) and has published more than 40 refereed journal articles, chapters in books and monographs. Booysen also does work as media commentator and analyst, and is a member of the editorial board of Politikon: The South African Journal of Political Studies and Debate.
