The Ancestral Mark

Overview

The past won't stay buried. Now fugitives, Briar and Marcus are hiding in the Zero-Zone-the lawless territory outside the city domes where genetic policing doesn't apply. Their love deepens as they use their combined skills to help others sentenced by the unjust system. Their sanctuary is compromised when a wealthy D.C. mogul offers them a deal: expose a conspiracy involving illegal genetic modification clinics in the Zero-Zone in exchange for a full pardon for Briar. They uncover a shocking plot: the clinics aren't modifying DNA; they are selling clean DNA samples harvested from people forced into indentured servitude. Briar and Marcus must navigate a dangerous black market of human life, all while a relentless genetic tracker-the man who originally mentored Marcus-hunts them down, forcing them to confront the sins of their shared past.

Author Information

Carrie Ray is a storyteller who refuses to be pinned down. Whether she is crafting high-stakes sonic conspiracies in the Small Town, Big World Mysteries, weaving faith-driven suspense in The FBI and the Lady or building the epic supernatural reaches of The Primal Chronicles, Carrie explores the many facets of the human experience. Grounded in a search for truth and connection, Ray's work offers a story for every mood-from pulse-pounding thrillers like The Resonant Kill to narratives that inspire the spirit. This versatility stems from a childhood spent in vivid daydreams, a trait that now helps her transport readers to immerse new worlds. Based in Texas, Carrie's curiosity for the ""unseen"" drives every page she writes. When she isn't charting the course of ancient civilizations or solving gritty crimes, she can be found at home with a crochet hook in hand, catching up on her favorite series. She invites readers to join her journey and discover new worlds to daydream about for themselves.
