OverviewLady Marjorie Fetter Goossens with her third husband had it all - wealth, fame and status as wife of Australia's world famous composer and classical conductor, Eugene Goossens III. Amazingly, she threw it away to sail off with a penniless Polish aristocrat, Zygmunt Michalowski, later a director of Radio Free Europe. Goossens, knighted by Queen Elizabeth II, self-destructed due to his own affair with a 'witch', a sex scandal that fascinates to this day. Marjorie's story includes the sanctuary she later provided a German countess, the distressed mistress of her former lover Zygmunt. After decades of travel and love affairs, she forsook her ancestral home in rural Pennsylvania and found solace in France. Her 20th century search for meaning and love spans the advent of the automobile to the Jet Age. Full Product DetailsAuthor: Glenn N Holliman , Barbara Long HollimanPublisher: Sunbury Press, Inc. Holliman of Newport, Pennsylvania teamed together to research and write this intriguing story of another couple, Eugene A. Goossens III and Marjorie Fetter Goossens. This is the second book on which the Holliman's have collaborated, the first a tome With Generous Hearts based on their careers in philanthropy. They discovered memorabilia, letters, photographs and diaries in Marjorie's historic home, Fetter House in Landisburg near their own residence in Perry County, Pennsylvania. The two, who live not far from Fetter, reconstructed her life. This appealed to them as Glenn is a historian and Barb felt a passion share this woman's story by embarking on a multi-year adventure piecing together the lives of this couple and other major persons in Marjorie's life. Glenn, a former history teacher and independent school administrator, has a B.S. and M.A. in American History and an M.Ed. from Tennessee universities. He has served as president of the Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation, the 501c3 for the State Museum and Archive and is active in multiple heritage preservation projects in Perry County, Pennsylvania. Barb, former teacher, holds a B.S. and M.Ed. in art from Michigan and New York schools. In 1988, the two formed Holliman Associates, a capital campaign fundraising firm that during their careers raised over one hundred million dollars for Episcopal parishes and dioceses in forty-eight states, the District of Columbia, the American Cathedral in Paris and other not for profit agencies. In 2005, the firm was absorbed by the national Episcopal Church Foundation in New York. In 2009, the Hollimans retired and began volunteer work in Pennsylvania. Barb has remodeled and enlarged their 1870s farmhouse several times which is located in the Appalachian Ridge and Valley section of the Juniata River Valley. The couple enjoys their grandchildren and traveling numerous times to Europe. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
