In 1980-81 he won the chair of Muslim Art at the University of Granada and now devotes his time to research and university lecturing. A member of numerous prestigious Spanish and foreign learned institutions, he has published extensively on Hispano-Muslim art and its antecedents in Oriental Umayyad art, as well as on the epigraphy of Islamic Spain and Fatimid Egypt.
