Just like the fireflies and them shining bright, when we're in darkness we can shine brighter. Daniel (10 yrs. old) I like the bees and Suzzie's pink hairbow. Carly (2 yrs. old) The pictures are really cool, and my favorite part of this story is where Suzzie Squatch and Queen Bee become friends even though they are so different. Easton (7 yrs. old) I like the questions about friends and counting the animals. They're cute! Bryntlee (4 yrs. old) My thoughts on the book ... it's adorable. Sophie (15 yrs. Old) Author InformationKimberly L. Higdon came to the realization that she is not defined by the challenges she has faced in life. At the age of 14, Kimberly accepted Jesus as her Savior and became a child of God, which is where her true identity lies. In her children's book The Adventures of Suzzie Squatch and Queen Bee, she shares the message that we are all created special by God, both male and female. When God formed us, He made each one of us unique, bearing our own gifts and talents, and He wants us to use them to bring Him honor and glory by sharing them with others. The inspiration for this story came from an experience the author had while visiting a friend for tea. The friend and her husband lived in the woods, down a long, winding road. Together they made Kimberly feel like royalty while having tea and fellowshipping. Kimberly had never experienced such warm-hearted compassion, and she felt deeply honored to be there.Kimberly lives with her husband, Bart, of 38 years on their farm called Peaceful Springs. They enjoy woodworking with trees from their land, crafting, and raising birds and bees. Some of their family members, with the same passion they share, have joined in to help with the farming endeavors, which has been a blessing to both the family and the community. Kimberly's passion is to continue encouraging others, reminding them of how special they are and how God uniquely created each of them for a purpose. You will never go wrong by believing in Jesus, inviting Him into your life to be your Lord and Savior, and sharing Him and grace with others. Dude Layne was born in 1942 into a home with 5 brothers and 5 sisters and grew up in Dunlap, TN. He graduated from Sequatchie County High School in 1960 and retired in 1972. Dude gave his life to Jesus on April 27, 1984, and married his lovely wife, Brenda, that same year. One of his favorite Bible verses is John 14:6 ""Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.""Though he had not always been interested in drawing and art, Dude had a drawing of one of the vintage motorcycles he had restored and wondered to himself if he could draw that bike. He picked up a pencil and some paper, started drawing, and never looked back. Since then, he has drawn over 500 pictures. Now, at age 83, he is an illustrator for a children's book. Dude enjoys using paint, felt pens, and watercolors, with his favorite subjects being old vintage barns.Dude also had the opportunity to be a baseball coach for 8 years, working with youth ages 6-16. While he has many accomplishments, the ones that stand out the most to him are the times he restored vintage cars and motorcycles. He created wood-grained dashboards and garnish moldings for these vehicles. One notable accomplishment was restoring Mr. McKee's 1928 Whippet Model car, which was used to start the Little Debbie Cakes business. In addition, Dude built a miniature working sawmill, putting over 2,000 hours into its creation. The sawmill runs, consisting of a steam engine, with a belt used to turn the blade for the sawmill that cuts. It truly works. He added people, animals, buildings for a town, a running waterfall, and a windmill. If Dude could offer any wisdom today, it would be to start by having a relationship with Jesus-believing in Him and asking Him to be your Savior.
