This book began, as the best things do, with a child's request at bedtime. One cosy evening, my daughter Scarlett was listening to a kids' podcast when she turned to me and asked: ""Dad, can you share the silly stories you tell me about Supergirl saving the day?"" That simple question from a small girl with a big imagination changed everything. What had been private bedtime stories whispered in the dark, full of giggles and made-up emergencies became something I wanted to share with the world. I'm Dion, the creator of The Adventures of Supergirl podcast, and this omnibus is a collection of those stories in written form of the same adventures, the same characters, the same humour, now presented as proper bedtime reading for families everywhere. Every story in this book revolves around the same wonderful, wonderfully chaotic family. Here's who you need to know: Supergirl is inspired by my daughter Scarlett courageous, quick-thinking, and always ready to save Supertown from whatever peculiar predicament the day has thrown at it. She is the hero this town deserves. SuperBub is modelled after Scarlett's spirited little sister, Danica. She may be small, but her enthusiastic attempts to help have a remarkable talent for creating additional problems while solving the first one. Her mishaps are legendary. Her heart is enormous. Multimum is the matriarch of the family She is wise, capable, and quietly responsible for the fact that any of these missions succeed at all. She is the unsung hero of Supertown, and she knows it, and she is too gracious to say so. Mission Dad That's me, Dion. He operates from the high-tech control room at the heart of the Super House. I coordinate, I communicate, I send the girls into the fray, and I make the tea. Every team needs someone who makes the tea. Superboy is our Bengal cat, inspired by our real cat Nibbler, whose superpower is being supremely, magnificently, entirely deliberately annoying. He has no cape. He needs no cape. His contributions to each adventure are consistently unhelpful and consistently pivotal, and he is aware of both of these things. The stories in this omnibus began as podcast episodes full of voice acting, sound effects, and the particular energy of audio storytelling. In converting them to written form, each episode has been expanded and fleshed out into a proper bedtime story, with room to breathe, room to laugh, and the kind of warm, unhurried ending that's designed to help small people drift off to sleep feeling happy. The humour is gentle and silly. The emergencies are absurd. The villains are more confused than menacing. The family, underneath all the chaos, loves each other very much. These stories were written with my daughters in mind as something they could keep, return to, and one day share with their own families. A small legacy of laughter.
