A very well written children's educational adventure storybook. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children's educational adventure movie, an animated cartoon, classroom PP presentation, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars. Michael Shnayerson: A heartfelt effort to curb bullying For such a serious subject, Laffe the Giraffe maintains a charmingly sweet tone that will beguile new young readers (and their older siblings). Bullying is a challenge for nearly all parents, and the inclination among many is to confront the bully's parents - or the bully himself. Laffe the Giraffe offers a gentle alternative, one that may leave everyone involved feeling better (including the bully!). All this is set off by Terri Beavers' truly delightful illustrations. Hillary Bercovici: Great anti-bullying book! Beautiful illustrations immediately draw the reader into this short, engaging story of newfound empathy and relational transformation. Through this gently encouraging narrative of conflict resolution via kindness and compassion, Alison: Fun story about standing up to bullies Having five kids myself, I enjoyed the fact that this playful story touched on the issue of sibling bullying along with bullying from peers. Laffe the giraffe learns this important lesson: to laugh with people not at people - that joking isn't funny if the other person isn't laughing. This story would be great for 6-8 year olds. It even kept the attention of my 2 & 4 year olds. The illustrations are fun and whimsical - beautiful artwork. My kids were especially intrigued by the encounter with the hyenas! A great book with an anti-bullying message. LA Babs: Great story with an important message and BEAUTIFULLY illustrated! This charming children's book tells a lovely story about Laffe the Giraffe who is bullied by various characters and yet is also helped by others. The sweetness of the Giraffe is underscored by the truly enchanting illustrations which manage to elevate the story while staying within the realm of a young person's world. I loved the arc of the storytelling and couldn't stop looking at the depictions - there isn't a child alive who won't be engaged by The Adventures of Laffe the Giraffe ! I highly recommend it to anyone with a child or an adult who loves beautiful illustrations. Jean: Cute illustrations excellent message about bullying and letting kids know it's okay to stick up for each other. LoLo: A clever story for raising awareness on bullying. An insightful book with written with empathy and great illustrations. Trow C: Nip a bully in the bud.GREAT READ! Fantastic illustrations...a must for your young and impressionable! Author InformationToby Beavers loves ALL animals, especially giraffes. He always wanted a baby giraffe as a child when growing up in New York City, but NO! Instead, he received a six-foot stuffed giraffe that he could climb on. It eventually surrendered to Toby's increasing weight and went mysteriously missing when he returned home from school one day - thanks Mom! A lifelong naturalist, Toby led an adventure-packed expedition to catch birds and insects in the Amazon with backing from the Smithsonian Institute. Toby Beavers grew up in New York City with 3 brothers. All three brothers including his father bullied each other endlessly. My father, having lived through the Great Depression, was old-school and believed belittling someone in front of others was the way to mold them into a 'stronger' man. The ubiquitous Sunday family meal was the worst! Every day I arrived home from school my first question to my mother was, 'are you going out tonight?' There were no bullying books for kids on the market. In fact, many of the books were about and encouraged bullying. Children's manners and morals are important to learn at a young age. Beavers was sent to boarding school at 13 and was quite small in stature. His wild, unhinged sense of humor made him the perfect target for older kids to bully and beat on. As he grew older and wiser, he finally learned how to stand up to bullying. Today, Toby lives in Charlottesville with his wife, Terri, and spends his days gardening and writing funny anti-bullying books for parents, teachers and early beginner readers. Terri Beavers - illustrator, designer. Terri Beavers is the first American fine china designer to be featured by Bernardaud Limoges, the prestigious, centuries-old French Limoges factory. Her holiday pattern illustrated with toy soldiers, Grenadiers, has become a classic and has been in the market for over thirty years. For several decades, Terri and her husband Toby renovated historic properties. They traveled the south and the east coast collecting architectural salvage and period antiques for their projects. Now they spend their time creating books about teaching kindness to children. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
