Overview

Follow the exciting adventures of a homing pigeon who can find his way home over a long distance. His adventure begins with a pigeon race up the Mississippi River from New Orleans to St. Louis, his home. During the race, he encounters many challenges and overcomes many obstacles, during which he displays outstanding leadership ability. He defeats a thunderstorm and different kinds of predators. He makes an emergency landing at the Natchez Bridge and meets a colony of pigeons living under the bridge, who helps him in his time of need. The reader will admire Cheramies determination and willingness to sacrifice to help others, at great risk to himself, carrying on the tradition of bravery displayed by his ancestor Cher-Amie.
