Overview

What if you had only one hand? How would you survive? As such a person, I detail many examples of coping in this book, such as when someone asks me if I need a hand-I have a perfect answer to open a conversation with that person. It is always interesting to watch as people misjudge the ability of a person with one hand. I have on many occasions shocked a person with my ability. Also coming with one hand is the desire to do as much or more than a person with two hands, which has landed many a situation that one would not expect. This book describes many extraordinary events in the life of a man with one hand.

Author Information

I lost my hand at an early age, but that did not stop me from living an exceptional life. I graduated from high school as Athlete of the Year. I went on to earn an equivalent to a Masters in Education and taught physical education for 24 years. Then I moved to a school to teach math and computer studies. I earned an award for teaching both in technology and classroom teaching. I sat on the Disabled Persons Commission as vice chair for the province of Nova Scotia. I also sat on the Human Rights Commission of Nova Scotia, and I presently sit again on the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission. I coached numerous sports during my tenure as a teacher. When I retired I spent seventeen and a half years as a volunteer cook once or twice a week. I received the tenth annual Jack Bonaparte Award for my work at the Glace Bay Foodbank. I also received the Glace Bay Wall of Fame award for volunteering. I also received the Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Medal for Nova Scotia. My greatest inspiration has been my wife of 55 years. Together we had five wonderful children. Mary, my true partner and love of my life, has made being me possible. Our friends call Mary a saint for her ability to handle everything.
