The 2026 Off Broad Street Short Play Festival

Overview

The 2026 OFF BROAD STREET SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL took place at Le Chat Noir Theatre in Augusta, GA. The plays included in this anthology were the top plays selected for the festival from worldwide submissions. Plays included - DRESSING BOBBY STRONG by Stephen Spotswood It's Constance's first time dressing the deceased in her new job as funeral director's apprentice and the body on her table is Bobby, a long-lost friend from high school. As she helps Bobby into his last suit of clothes, she remembers why he was one of the few bright spots during a traumatic time in her life. A sweet, sad story about love and mortality. HEAVEN HELP ME by Jaclyn Stiller Two unlikely strangers spark a friendship as they wait for their bus on Halloween night, finding that their clothes don't tell their whole story. KAYLEE AND ADELYN by Elizabeth Shannon Two twins go through life together before gun violence tears them apart. MADAM TIFFANI, THE MINOR ARCANE by Michael Lin Tiffani, a grade school tarot reader, weighs in on the fates and fortunes of Andie and Ducky, two friends who are teetering on the edge of being something more. MISSED DISCONNECTIONS by Samara Siskind In the age of swiping left or right, three millennials defy the odds by looking for love the good old-fashioned way... on Craigslist. SNACKS, DRUGS, AND THE SEXUAL APPETITES OF THE GAYS by Steven G. Martin Newlyweds Aiden and Jake are glad to have time to themselves as their wedding day concludes. But helicopter parents Cathleen and Merle intervene to make sure their little man Aiden is all set for losing his virginity. STEPHEN HAWKING'S TRAIN by Mike Byham On 28 June 2009, British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking hosted a party for time travelers in the University of Cambridge. Professor Hawking did not send out the invitations until the following day, after the party was over. In preparing for the event, Hawking said he hoped that copies of the invite might survive for thousands of years, and that ""one day someone living in the future will find the information and use a wormhole time machine to come back to my party, proving that time travel will one day be possible."" Hawking reportedly waited in the room for a few hours before leaving, and no visitors arrived. He stated that the event was ""experimental evidence that time travel is not possible"". But was he truthful? THE DIARY OF MARIA by Dave Huber After the school play, Maria knows her dad is not coming to pick her up and Maria's director, Mr. Harris, must decide if he can do what any decent person would do. WHEN I SORROW MOST by Amy Patton Set in an apartment, Ana moves through reflections of a relationship that once made her feel whole, now shaped by something she cannot change. Blending humor, tenderness, and heartbreak, the play explores what it means to carry love forward.
