John J. Barnes has lived seven years in the California desert. A Harvard College Economics graduate, he's done start-ups for AT&T around the world, served on non-profit boards, ran a foundation in Warsaw, Poland, and once passed doctoral exams in Modern languages and Critical Theory. He speaks German and French badly but reads both languages reasonably well, plays a lot of tennis, reads and writes book to keep himself busy in retirement, which has now entered its 23rd year.
