Testimony of a Heretic: Leaving the Evangelical Church

Overview

This poetry collection is equal parts early memoir, religious criticism, and exploration of growth and freedom. The medium of poetry allows for an exploration of ideas, vivid storytelling, inspiration, and lament. Testimony of a Heretic deals with the indoctrination, religious trauma, and spiritual abuse the poet experienced and witnessed within the Evangelical church system. The poet explores the questioning and curiosity that instigated change, as well as her unshakable belief in goodness and love that eventually led her away from the church. Olivia considers herself to be a cult survivor because of the idealogical systems and manipulative control she experienced. But more than anything she wants to share the freedom she has found with others: the joy and breadth of life outside the strictures of high control religion.
