Overview

What if urban planning and design were to prioritize rather than merely accommodate the unbuilt environment? Territorial Urbanism Now! calls for a paradigm shift in the conception of urban transformation. It urges us to favor sustainable systems in order to collectively tackle the challenges of climate change. Until now, urban planning and design professionals have integrated green and active mobility systems in the residual spaces available. In the reverse approach envisioned here, these systems become structuring elements of the territory, supported by a much more frugal built environment. The contributions by urbanists, artists, architects, and landscape architects in this publication come from research, practice, and teaching. Aglaée Degros ist Professorin und Leiterin des Instituts für Städtebau an der Technischen Universität Graz und Honorary Science Fellow an der Vrije Universiteit Brussel. 2001 gründete sie gemeinsam mit Stefan Bendiks Artgineering, ein Büro für Städtebau. Aglaée Degros ist Ko-Autorin verschiedener Publikationen, darunter Public Space and the Challenges of Urban Transformation in Europe, Traffic Space is Public Space, Territorial Justice, Basics of Urbanism und das kürzlich erschienene Towards Territorial Transition. Eva Schwab ist Landschaftsarchitektin, Post-Doktorandin und stellvertretende Leiterin des Instituts für Städtebau an der Technischen Universität Graz. Im Jahr 2015 promovierte sie summa cum laude in Landschaftsplanung und Landschaftsarchitektur an der Universität für Bodenkultur Wien. Ihre Dissertation wurde mit dem Dissertationspreis der Landscape Research Group ausgezeichnet. Neben Aglaée Degros ist sie Mitherausgeberin von Territorial Justice sowie Basics of Urbanism. Radostina Radulova-Stahmer ist seit 2017 am Institut für Städtebau an der Technischen Universität Graz als Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin beschäftigt. Ihr Promotionsstudium am Karlsruher Institut für Technologie KIT sowie an der TU Graz und schloss sie 2022 ab. Anna Bagarić ist seit 2019 als Universitätsassistentin am Institut für Städtebau an der Technischen Universität Graz tätig, Sabine Bauer und Jennifer Fauster sind dort seit 2020, Mario Stefan seit 2023 tätig. Sie wirkten an zwei Konferenzen mit, welche die Basis für die Publikation Territorial Urbanism Now! bildeten.
