OverviewTerrell Owens grew up in a humble household in a small Alabama mill city, where he lived with his hardworking mother and his strict grandmother. After he discovered sports in high school, football became his ticket to a different life. Owens went to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he became a college football star, and then became a professional football player when he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1996. Since then Owens has set a new NFL record for most passes caught in a single game and led the NFL in touchdown receptions in 2001, 2002, and 2006. He has also become known for controversial touchdown celebrations and for his turbulent relationships with teammates and coaches. Today Owens leads active NFL players in career touchdowns scored and is considered one of the top wide receivers in the game.
