Terminal to Remission with Cannabis Oil: An Australian success story

Overview

Allison, a typical mum, had her world turned upside down by a devastating cancer diagnosis that gave her less than two years to live. The doctors' prognosis was so grim that her life insurance was paid out and Allison, her husband and young son started taking their final bucket-list holidays. But Allison wasn't ready to give up hope when the medical system ran out of ideas, so she gathered her strength and decided to look for alternative treatments, even if it meant breaking the law. With cannabis oil still illegal, Allison found herself in a fight for her life that took her to the backstreets of Nimbin and the black market to access her medicine. The chances she took led to a remarkable tale of triumph over adversity. This story of courage, determination and gentle humour reminds us what it was like only a few short years ago, when ordinary people went to extraordinary lengths to get the medical help they needed. Ten years on, Allison is not just alive but free of cancer, cannabis oil is now legal, and thousands of Australians are using it every day. This book is a must-read for those intrigued by this ground-breaking, yet still controversial treatment option. Laugh and cry along with Allison at the bizarre situations she finds herself in Witness the frustration as Allison and her family face countless obstacles in their quest to obtain the medicine she needs to survive Explore the history of cannabis and the enduring stigma surrounding this controversial plant

Reviews

Allison's story is a real insight into her search for a way to help the body heal itself from the very rare cancer she battled, while still being a wife and a mother and going through life's challenges. Medical cannabis was a very taboo subject when Allison and I first met. She was cautious to open up to me about it but I'm glad she did. Her knowledge through experience is now my knowledge to pass onto my clients who may go through something similar. Allison's book will make you a little teary and also give you a chuckle. Thank you, Allison, for sharing this with us. This in itself shows what a caring person you are. Naomi San Jose Aust. Reg. Remedial Massage Therapist Terminal to Remission with Cannabis Oil draws you in from the beginning and keeps you hooked till the end. It makes a heavy subject light and easy to understand, personalising it with little wisps of humour and irony. It's a story that needs to be told. Gail Hester Founding member Medical Cannabis Users Association of Australia Inc Secretary Legalise Cannabis Party NSW Registered Office Legalise Cannabis Australia Party I moved into the street where Allison lives as she was in the middle of her cancer journey. I remember the day she told me that she had about two years to live and I was horrified that this wonderful, tough, warm-hearted person whom I had just met was facing such a harsh, brief future, leaving John and Nathan to continue on without her. In this book, Allison leads us deep into her life, her family, her work and home-making and achieving her personal goals. She then describes the misery of her cancer and standard medical treatment followed by her extraordinary search for a more humanistic form of treatment. This wonderfully honest book is about determination and courage and will inspire anyone facing an impossible life hurdle. Jane Shamrock Occupational Therapist GDipOT MA PhD (Sunshine Coast) Allison has coherently and affectionately documented those difficult years living with her cancer. Not just once but on three occasions, she has questioned, argued, cried and battled her way to the finish line, always with her family as her priority. Allison was told her life would end, yet she is still living and has bravely shared the horrendous illness she suffered, the many operations, treatment, doubt and lack of support from others, and eventually her final success to remission. Cannabis was her friend, her saviour and that lifeline for which she searched. I'm so glad she found it and can share her 'no holds barred' book with you all. Terminal to Remission with Cannabis Oil: An Australian success story will not fail to inspire and motivate the reader and reinforce that the medical profession, on occasion, does not always have the answers. I am immensely proud of the woman I met many years ago and even prouder of my friend and author of this amazing, insightful book. Read it, enjoy it, learn from it, and please pass it on to your nearest and dearest, as Allison reminds us that life is precious and to never give up hope. Shelagh Brennand Retired Police Inspector, Former Stroke Ambassador, Author of A Stroke of Poetry Thanks for sharing this very personal account.
