Bounty lands were grants of lands provided by the US Government to veterans who served in various military conflicts, including the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and the Mexican War. Veteran or their heirs could apply for Bounty Land, which then could be exchanged for vacant public lands. The size of the granted land varied in size depending rank and length of service.
