Telling October. Memory and the Making of the Bolshevik Revolution

Overview

Telling October examines the rich and accretive processes by which the new Soviet regime sought to construct the events of 1917 as a major revolutionary event, indeed a foundation event, for the new Communist state. As a ""memory project,"" it sought to socialize generations of Soviet citizens into an understanding of ""October"" as just such a watershed event. Although by no means completely successful, these efforts still leave their traces today in modern Russia.
