OverviewPublished by the American Geophysical Union as part of the Field Trip Guidebooks Series, Volume 108. The present tectonic regime of northern California includes transform faulting south of the Mendocino triple junction, eastward-directed subduction, north of the junction and extensional rifting and recent volcanism in the Cascade Range to the east. The complex structures that formed during the last few million years and the variety of igneous rocks that were generated in these three different plate tectonic settings provide us with testable models to compare with the more ancient history. During the first two and one-half days, we will be looking at the rocks and structures of the northern Coast Ranges (Figure 1), including the well-known Franciscan Complex. Evidence will be presented for a complicated history of subduction punctuated by periods of transform and extensional faulting. Full Product DetailsAuthor: MC Blake , D. S. Harwood , R. J.
