Here you will find everything from the materials and tools you need to clearly presented stitching techniques. There is much to be learned from this book by needleworkers of all abilities through the illustrated projects which steadily evolve from basics to advanced techniques. Internationally known lacemaking instructor and author Pamela Nottingham begins with instruction on basic Torchon lace, using 16 patterns which introduces the beginner in building a strong foundation. The precisely written instructions are accompanied by a generous sampling of detailed diagrams, photographs, and prickings clearly illustrating each lesson. The complexity of the projects builds through the book, introducing traditional Bedfordshire, Bucks Point, and Cluny lace patterns. Instruction on joining and mounting lace, pricking interpretation, edgings, insertions, and decorations are also included. The traditional styles are reinforced with several graduated patterns, each advancing from the previous lesson. Author Information

Pamela Nottingham comes from Marlow, a town on the banks of the River Thames and a centre of the bobbin lace for three hundred years. Having mastered the craft in the mid 1950' she accepted an invitation to teach weekend courses at Missenden Abbey in Buckinghamshire; invitations came for classes throughout the country. Demand for courses in Europe, America, and New Zealand followed. She has always taught traditional English lace and uses South Bucks bobbins fashioned from beech trees in the Chiltern Hills. Six practical books, each with numbered diagrams and clear instructions are aimed at the inexperienced lacemaker. Bucks Point, Bedfordshire and Torchon laces are her preferred interest.
