Lance O'Sullivan might as well have been born in the saddle. As a member of one of racing's 'royal families' he was raised with thoroughbred horses and within a well known racing dynasty. His father Dave was a champion trainer, and his brother Paul is now one of the country's leading trainers. It should be no surprise to anyone that he went on to become one of our most successful jockeys, regularly winning the annual racing premiership and taking out five of the possible six $1 million dollar races run in the 1990s. He won the Japan Cup on Horlicks, at the time the world's richest race with a $5 million stake, has taken out every major race in Australasia and was a huge success while riding in Hong Kong. Recently retiring at the top, Lance is now a tAB ambassador and racing commentator for trackside television, the racing channel. His story is one of sporting excellence, dedication, hard work and stunning success, along with crippling injury and the hard physical grind and injury record that is the lot of the professional jockey in what is an incredibly physically demanding profession.
