Teaching African-Centered Psychology: Resources and Activities for Instructors

Overview

This useful book brings together popular teaching activities from African-centered/Black psychology in a single volume, which instructors will return to again and again. Showcasing a wide variety of teaching techniques, each lesson plan encourages active learning and involves the whole class. These are presented in an easy cookbook format which lists materials needed, instructions, discussion items, and suggestions for further reading on each topic. Activities cover the following courses in psychology all from an African-centered perspective: African-centered, research methods, history, educational, developmental, personality theories, clinical, health, social, and industrial-organizational psychology courses. Written by an expert in the field, the book explains what African-centered/Black psychology is; how it differs from standard psychology; what it offers to African people, researchers, and teachers. Offering an entertaining, effective, and easy-to-plan suite of activities which sheds light on a neglected field in standard psychology, this is an essential resource for teachers and lecturers teaching African-centered/Black psychology across the psychological discipline.
