OverviewThis book includes many sketches by the author and black-and-white photos. The progression of a swimmer may be divided into three parts: [1] Moving in the water, [2] Swimming in the water, and [3] Swimming fast. Part 1, moving in the water, is the focus of this book. It includes activities a parent may do to help a child become comfortable and safe in the water. Any child who feels comfortable in the water will enjoy it and that is the foundation of a good swimmer. This is an important first step for any child. Part 2, swimming in the water, is briefly discussed. Standard swim lessons are offered at most swimming pools and provide an excellent way for a child to learn proper swimming techniques. Part 3, swimming fast, describes the progression of a child from a good swimmer to a great swimmer. Parents of young children, who demonstrate some skill in and a passion for swimming, will appreciate the suggestions included in Part 3. The methods in this book were developed by the author when she taught adults, who were afraid to enter the water, to learn to become comfortable and safe in the water. She refined the approach to teach her son to swim. At the age of 3, he could jump off a diving board and swim (doggy paddle) to the edge. In college, he swam on a Division 1 swim team.
