Reviews

"It was so good to receive a copy of your book with its rare combination of lightheartedness and deep thoughtfulness - such an effective way to address such serious matters. Reading it added to my thinking about the responsibility of leaders for creating and sustaining the conditions in which people work and seek meaning in their lives. So many people in business, health, education etc seem to be either ""micro-managed"" or ""neglected"" or - the most damaging - both. You describe so clearly the consequences of not treating people as people and suggest in such straightforward terms what people can do to strengthen and sustain themselves when that is the case. Professor Stamp PHD I think this is an absolute must read for those who work in our schools and indeed, the wider community. I could see potential for using this as a stimulus for staff meetings as well as team building sessions, but in any event, it provides an invaluable lesson in how to escape the trap of stress/anxiety/inadequacy that seems all too prevalent in our schools. Through seeking to reverse the trend of inward-focussed analytical thought and instead noticing and prioritising the feelings, moods and needs of others everyone achieves heightened awareness and the whole school population benefits. Studded with anecdotes that never feel superfluous and some that made me smile, the book is beautifully written, flows well and gets its point across succinctly. I really enjoyed reading it and highly recommend it. - School improvement advisor, Ann Massey"
