He was born and raised in the Maori language by his parents in the Wairarapa before moving to Auckland at 11 years old. He is a graduate of Kohanga Reo, Kura Kaupapa Maori and Wharekura. Upon leaving high school, Te Korou pursued learning te reo Maori at tertiary level through Te Pinakitanga ki te Reo Kairangi and Te Panekiretanga o te Reo and went on to complete a Diploma in Adult Education, a Bachelor of Maori Performing Arts and a Post-Graduate Diploma Teaching and Learning in Maori Medium. A Maori language enthusiast, experienced subtitler, kapa haka exponent and dynamic language teacher at various kura reo throughout Aotearoa, Te Korou also translated the Kings song 'Kei Aro Atu Koe / Don't Worry Bout' It', which featured in the 2019 Waiata Anthems. Te Korou now teaches at TKKM o Hoani Waititi Marae and Te Wananga o Aotearoa and has a passion for translating and creating new phrases and sayings - keeping te reo fresh, cool and youthful.
