OverviewThis study is part of the final assignment for the subject Geotechnologies Applied to the Preparation of Agricultural Reports and Expert Reports, where the 2023/2 edition analyzed the floods in the Taquari Valley. The Taquari Valley, located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, is known for its exuberant landscapes and the importance of its rivers in the economy and in the lives of local communities. However, in recent years, it has faced serious problems due to the floods that occur periodically, drastically affecting the lives of residents. In 2023, the region was particularly affected, with many municipalities suffering from severe flooding. Intense rainfall and soil saturation contributed to the overflow of the rivers that make up the local watersheds, resulting in flooding in residential and commercial areas. Using geotechnologies, such as remote sensing and geographic information systems, it was possible to visualize the flooding in the Taquari Valley, as well as its topographical characteristics. Geoprocessing proved to be an important tool for representing reality and can be used as an auxiliary tool in decision-making.
