The daughter of an Episcopalian minister and a pianist, she was born in Montreal, Canada. She attended McGill University in Montreal where she studied Classical Greek and Mathematics. Since her earliest childhood she has traveled and lived in various parts of Europe and the United States, absorbing different cultures and influences.
