He has a master's in counseling psychology and is currently a doctoral candidate at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He is a licensed professional counselor who works with refugee and immigrant populations. His interests include indigenous African knowledge and culture. Ahmed is from Djibouti where he continues to give back, recently helping to build a new school in Somalia. He now works and resides in Minnesota. Wes Erwin is both author and licensed counselor, penning picture books and middle grade novels. Wes has a Ph.D. in Counseling and Human Development from the University of Iowa and a longstanding interest in people who are refugees. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, canoeing, camping, and basketball. Wes, his spouse, and two children live in Shoreview, Minnesota. Meryl Treatner is an award-winning children's book illustrator, published by numerous major publishers. A graduate of the University of the Arts, her works have appeared in hundreds of books, magazines, and leading newspapers, and have been featured on major TV networks.
