Like many artists of his generation, George Barbier was fascinated by the work of the dancer Tamara Karsavina, and in this book Barbier pays homage to the great dancer in the form of twelve fantastical designs which convey the impression Karsavina produced in her dancing. Among the works illustrated are Sheherazade, Narcisse, Petrushka, Carnaval, Le Pavillon d'Armide, Les Sylphides, Thamar, Daphnis et Chloe, The Firebird, Spectre de la rose, Cléopatre, and Jeux. First printed in 1914, the book has never before been reprinted.
