Tally Up: Companion Book to the Brown Pony Series

Overview

If you compete against others, you can become bitter, but if you compete with yourself, you become better. This book is not just about blue ribbons but creating a winning attitude in kids too! Tally Up was designed for youth riding instructors, 4-H horse leaders, parents, therapeutic riding instructors and those who teach equine skills in the areas of Showmanship and Horsemanship. It is comprised of ready made forms that you cut out and use for evaluating horse show performance in a practical and non-judgemental way. The forms you score for your riders are helpful to organize and communicate lesson planning and to measure progress when you practice at home. Cut out pages of a book? YES! That is the design for this practical work. 55 scoring forms are included for your personal use! The ultimate goal of Tally Up is to empower kids to understand the steps of success and develop the life skill of becoming competitve with themselves as they strive towards excellence and earning their blue ribbons! BONUS: Are you a therapeutic riding instructor? What method do you use to decide whether a rider should have one side-walker or two? OR when they are ready to ride without a leader? A section on determining the level of independence for adapted riding clients is also included. This section was previously published by the author in a NARHA (now known as PATH Intl.) Instructor Voice Newsletter. Rebecca Cook is an Occupational Therapist and Equine Professional with over 30 years of experience in the arena. She has authored 12 Steps to Integrity With Your Horse, Saddle Fit Simplified, and is also the author of The Brown Pony Series. What books are available in the Brown Pony Series? Book One: Introduction to Hippotherapy Book Two: Risk Management and Safety in Hippotherapy Book Three: Considering Hippotherapy in Your Career Plans Book Four: The Business of Hippotherapy PLUS ... Barn Rules: A Companion Book to the Brown Pony Series - A teaching tool of basic barn rules in social stories and pictures for instructors, riders, parents, and volunteers. Tally Up: A Companion Book to the Brown Pony Series - Checklists created from a task analysis of showmanship and riding skills that can be used to improve understanding of a Judge's class placings and to provide a foundation of skills to practice for competition. Also, a great breakdown of skills for an instructor to use in lesson planning. Safe Horse Handling: A Companion Book to the Brown Pony Series - Increase awareness of common sense safety to implement when working around horses. Some of the tips may be inadvertently overlooked until there is an accident. Great for equine instructors, therapeutic riding volunteer training, and equine assisted activity and therapy programs. Incorporating Games in Hippotherapy: A Companion Book to the Brown Pony Series - Play is the work of the child (and the de-stressor of the adult). Play engages the whole person: imagination, emotion, cognition, and engagement, along with the physical skills components of the game activities. Games can build in a reason for completing various ring figures, speed changes, stops and starts. Learn ideas for layering on goal-oriented game activities in a hippotherapy session.
