OverviewRichard Rae was born and educated in Hamilton, Canada. After leaving high school in 1957, he began his career as a bank teller before joining International Harvester, where he advanced from clerk to technical writer, producing specifications and owner manuals for international products. He later moved into advertising as a copywriter for Western Tire and Auto Supply, serving stores across eastern Canada. Rae's career then shifted to newspaper publishing, a profession that would span more than four decades and take his family across four Canadian cities and ten U.S. states. In 1973, Rae immigrated to the United States, joining Capital Cities Corporation in Michigan. He became a U.S. citizen in 1982 after being promoted to publisher of the Mountain Press in East Tennessee-the same year he completed his high school education. Throughout his career, he held senior leadership roles with major public companies including Southam Newspapers, Capital Cities, Harte-Hanks Communications, Gray Television, and Triple Crown Media. After retiring in 2006, Rae and his wife founded Rae Media Services and acquired Continental Features, a provider of syndicated color comics. He retired for a second time in 2018 and published his second book. Now 87, Rae resides in Jefferson City, Tennessee, where he continues to write and reflect on a life rich in experience and storytelling.
