Ismail Darbesh was born in an ‘ostagar' or traditional garment-maker family, and completed his schooling at Tentulkuli High School and Makardaha Bamasundari Institution, after which he attended Narsingha Dutta College in Howrah and graduated with Honours in Bengali. V.
