OverviewThrough the lives of tremendous achievement that its alumni have lived since its establishment in 1925 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by Regent Ras Tafari Makonnen (the future Emperor Haile Selassie I), Tafari Makonnen School has made a powerful contribution to the economic and social development of not only Ethiopia but of many other nations around the world where its alumni have lived and worked. The embodiment of Haile Selassie's farsighted vision for the transformation of Ethiopia through education, Tafari Makonnen School has been a uniquely consequential educational institution-the preeminent example of a truly national school created by a head of state to serve as an educational beacon for an entire nation. In Tafari Makonnen School: Inspiring Lives of Achievement Since 1925, the four co-authors-alumni Bisrat Aklilu, Alem W. Mathias, and Abebe Abraham Joteh, and former TMS teacher Doug Eadie-have painted for the first time a complete portrait of this extraordinary educational institution.
