Overview

Insurance fraud is a growing problem on a global scale. The ABI estimates that fraudulent insurance claims on motor and household policies alone cost insurers in excess of £1 billion every year. This book provides an analysis of the insurance industry’s response to the problem and examines fraud from legal and practical perspectives to determine how to manage and reduce fraud. Key issues covered include: fraud in the insurance and reinsurance context, a look at industry-wide initiatives and individual insurance companies’ approaches to the problem, consideration of recent legal developments and a look at how insurance fraud is tackled in other jurisdictions. Includes a chapter on marine insurance fraud.

Reviews

This book can be called the Encyclopedia of Insurance Fraud: so full and complete is its content. It is also very useful for universities which provide risk management and insurance courses. - Professor Igor Kotlobovsky, Chairman, Risk Management and Insurance Department, Moscow State University, Russia The authors provide all the information required to combat insurance fraud. It is examined in a number of different countries and lessons learned are clearly identified. The outstanding academic and practical experience and insights of the authors has enabled them to produce a, hands-on, forward thinking readable book on this highly complex topic. - Adrian Ladbury, Editor, Insurance Day, UK This book helps fill a gap in the literature by pulling together and distilling into one easily read volume a wide range of relevant and up to date information. I welcome this addition to our fraud-fighting tools. - Stefan Gussmann, Group Chief Security Officer, Zurich Financial Services, Switzerland This book provides clear guidance on how to better detect, defeat and deter fraudulent claims. Practitioners will find the indicators for identifying fraudulent behaviour especially helpful. The comparative approach makes it a must for organisations conducting business in international markets. - Terry G. Clarke, former CEO, Converium Ltd, Zurich, Switzerland This book presents a clear and comprehensive view of the problem of Insurance Fraud and how to deal with it. Of particular interest to companies and organisations expanding their markets is the analysis of the situations in other countries where the lessons to be learned are clearly identified. This will make the task of combating fraud in new markets much simpler - Karl Wrumen, Editor, risControl, Austria This is a very well written book which will be extremely useful to insurers, reinsurers, regulators and investigators. - K. K. Srinivasan, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA), India ... the authors have provided an excellent reference guide which should be essential reading for anyone involved with claims settlements, assessment and loss adjusting. - Paul Ray, Managing Director, Africa Re, South Africa This book can be called the Encyclopedia of Insurance Fraud: so full and complete is its content.
