In 1973, sponsored by a UNESCO grant, he moved to the Department of Linguistics at Reading University (UK), where he spent three years and took an MA in Linguistics. In 1978 he was appointed to a Lectureship in English Language and Literature in Murcia, setting up the Department of English Studies. In 1982, he was appointed Professor of English Philology.
