Overview

Heterocycles constitute one of the largest areas of research in organic chemistry, as they are present in numerous organic compounds with biological and pharmacological activity. It is important to note that among heterocycles, five-membered rings containing nitrogen and sulfur atoms-specifically dithiazoles-are the subject of particular study due to the chemical transformations of their derivatives. In this book, we have described the multiple applications of N-arylimino-1,2,3-dithiazoles derived from the condensation of 4,5-dichloro-1,2,3-dithiazolium chloride (Appel's salt) with aromatic amines. The preparation of various heterocycles, primarily nitrogen- and sulfur-containing, has thus been addressed. The antitumor, antibacterial, and antimicrobial biological activities of these compounds have been extensively documented in the literature.
