OverviewThis work examines the emergence of syntactic units in Finnish conversation. Discourse data in Finnish conversations has been used to explore how syntax is being structured in discourse. The author has studied syntactic structures in their local contexts to find out about the more global patterns and constraints on the use of the structures. Chapters discuss topics such as clauses and clausal syntactic relations, grammatical structures as cognitive schemas, grammaticization of the subject role, free NPs, and intonation and syntactuc structuring.
