Author Information

Susan Hauck is a nature enthusiast, passionate about all aspects of the outdoors. From early childhood, Hauck preferred being outside, watching, listening, smelling, and feeling the awesome kaleidoscope of beauty nature offers. Her writing has been influenced by Shelly, Byron, Shakespeare, Longfellow, Wordsworth, and Poe, although her poems fit no precise category other than nature. A professional social worker throughout her life, she believes human beings are nature in its ultimate form, and intricately connected with it. She enjoys doing community work, charity work for her church, singing in the church choir, and has been an ESL tutor and GED instructor throughout her life. Her other interests include music, bird-watching, catching and releasing spring peepers, horseback riding, archery, and taking care of her two purring fur babies. An avid bookworm herself, she also enjoys reading to her mother, who is legally blind, and describing the various things she sees and hears in nature. Hauck experienced love at first sight in 1997, and has been married to her husband, Mark, since 2001. She often jokes that her shortest poem is, ""I get an exquisite feeling of pleasure whenever I touch a wild thing; but sweeter still is the exquisite feeling I get when a wild thing touches me back."" Her fondest wish is for people to enjoy reading her poems as much as she enjoys writing them.
