When the British First Fleet arrived in 1788, Sydney was home to numerous Aboriginal communities who had been living there for thousands of years. Val Attenbrow is a Research Scientist in the Division of Anthropology at the Australian Museum, Sydney. Her area of expertise is Aboriginal prehistory and archaeology. In investigating the prehistory of the Aboriginal people who inhabited the shores of Sydney Harbour (Port Jackson) at the time of British settlement, she has excavated (with her colleagues) several Aboriginal sites in different parts of the Port Jackson catchment.
